Original artwork description
This is a large painting of a solitary hawthorn tree with red berries. This is a subject I return to often. I find these trees very characterful and they are steeped in folklore. Sometimes called the Fairy Tree or May Tree, they have beautiful white flowers in the spring and vivid red colours with the berries in autumn. This painting has a degree of realism but there is also an element of painterly expression and a subtle nod to the surreal character that nature can often display. The painting is protected with a specialist varnish, signed and strung at the back ready to hang.
