Original artwork description
Three figures, one male and two female, engage sans clothes around a bed in a tense and somewhat heated encounter that feels erotic but troubling. Not sure whether carnal activity is about to take place between these real or imagined participants, the viewer notices the attitude of communication among the group implied by the crooked arms as if cell phones are being held to the ear.
The title fills in the gap and confirms that all is not well as someone is casually informing another that they are leaving a relationship. In the same spirit of informality, physical activity may still take place even though the formal bonds of a partnership have been discarded.
Influences, among others, include Max Beckmann, Edvard Munch, Bob Thompson, George McNeil, Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Francesco Clemente, R.B. Kitaj and Willem de Kooning.
