About Assunta Cassa

Biography

My work explores identity, human relationships and the way we experience the contemporary world. The human figure, often female, is at the centre of my painting, sometimes immersed in metropolitan spaces, sometimes caught in more intimate moments of reflection.

I work primarily in oil on canvas, using a palette knife and building forms through fragments of colour. This visual language originated from my observation of the pixelated structure of digital images, but over time the fragment has taken on a broader meaning in my work. Forms are divided and reassembled, suggesting a reality made of multiple perspectives and connections, in which the individual is continually shaped by relationships with others and the surrounding world.

Colour is both structure and emotion. Through contrasts, rhythm and layers of paint, I explore the tension between inner experience and shared reality.

My painting is driven by curiosity about people and by a belief in the importance of attention, freedom and human connection. I want each painting to invite a slower gaze, creating a space in which viewers can pause, reflect and bring their own experience to what they see.
