Artist's description:

Gopis dancing in the dusk is the fifth of the series of 8 paintings I had painted on the theme of "Gopi Geeth" .

This painting was inspired by "Gopi Geeth" from "Bhagavatam" a devotional book of the Hindus in India. Gopi Geeth is about the love the Gopis feel for Krishna the Godhead, their eternal Lover. Their love is not the physical one but of the eternal kind representing the human soul seeking the Supreme with whom it wants to unite to feel the ecstasy of oneness with God, to be liberated from the earthly desires and miseries. Here, as dusk falls, and time for Krishna's return with his herd of cows approaches, the Gopis dance in the beautiful soft light of the setting sun, in sheer joy of meeting him.

5th in the series of the "Gopi Geeth" paintings-
"O our beloved, during the day, when you go off to the forest,
every moment (without seeing you) passes like a yug (age).
When you return in the evening and we eagerly look upon your
most beautiful face framed with curly locks, our pleasure is
hindered by our eyelids. At that time, we feel that the creator of
eyelids made it without reason."
