I made this painting referring to the towers of my city, San Gimignano, famous in the world for its medieval towers. In fact, often approached in New York, it is called the Manhattan of the Middle Ages. What unites the two cities is certainly not the size because San Gimignano does not reach 10,000 inhabitants, but it is the verticality, the need to, today as then, to build higher and higher pushing towards the sky.
For this painting I used the soft pastels technique on a masonite panel prepared with a special background for pastels. The result is an image with bright colors that preserve the typical pastiness of the chalks and that give the towers a solid and majestic appearance.

Ho realizzato questo dipinto facendo riferimento alle torri della mia città, San Gimignano, famosa nel mondo per le sue torri medievali. Infatti, accostata spesso a New York, è chiamata la Manhattan del Medio Evo. Ciò che accomuna le due città non è sicuramente la dimensione perché San Gimignano non arriva a 10000 abitanti, ma è la verticalità, il bisogno di, oggi come allora, edificare sempre più alto spingendosi verso il cielo.
Per questo dipinto ho utilizzato la tecnica dei pastelli morbidi su un pannello di masonite preparato con un fondo apposito per i pastelli. Il risultato è un'immagine dai colori vivi che conservano la pastosità tipica dei gessi e che danno alle torri un aspetto solido e maestoso.
