Original artwork description
Gold in Their Eyes - Black Painting is a modular mixed-media artwork on canvas, composed of 6 separate 40×40 cm canvases. Created with acrylic, black acrylic marker and imitation gold gilding, this dark contemporary artwork combines a matte black surface, tone-on-tone black line drawing, repeated faces, symbolic eyes and small flashes of metallic gold. It works as a strong statement piece for a modern living room, hallway, office, studio, loft interior or darker contemporary space.
The artwork is built around the tension between visibility and concealment. The black drawing is placed on a black surface, so the figures are not immediately clear. Faces, eyes, mouths, heads, repeated silhouettes and small symbolic marks appear gradually as the light changes and the viewer moves around the work. The image is never fully fixed; it reveals itself in fragments, like something half-seen or partly remembered.
The gold elements become the main points of light inside the darkness. Small gilded eyes and bright metallic details interrupt the black field, creating the feeling of hidden attention, silent observation and uncertain knowledge. The title suggests a world where most things remain unclear, and only the shine of gold in their eyes can still be seen.
The 6 canvases can be arranged in different ways. They can be displayed as a vertical 2×3 grid, a horizontal 3×2 composition, or with more space between the parts. The drawing does not continue from one canvas to another, so each part works as an individual fragment while still belonging to the same visual system.
This is not a traditional portrait and not a pure abstract painting. The work sits between contemporary figurative abstraction, symbolic drawing, street-art inspired mark-making and dark minimal wall art. Its modular format gives the collector flexibility, while the black and gold palette makes it visually strong, elegant and mysterious. Sold unframed. Signed on the back.
