Garden Sketches is a collection inspired by memories of student journeys and quiet hours spent sketching in Ukrainian botanical gardens. During our years at the art institute, we often traveled with sketchbooks, exploring landscapes like curious observers of nature. Wherever a branch, a shadow, or a sudden harmony of colors appeared, a quick line would begin a sketch.
These works reflect the spirit of light, spontaneous sketching. Some lines start confidently, others dissolve into the surface, remaining intentionally unfinished. Often the process was interrupted — a sudden rain, a strong wind, or simply a change of plans. Life has its own rhythm and sometimes it stops the hand before the sketch is completed.
Because of this, some elements remain open and unfinished. Not as a lack, but as a record of a moment that existed only briefly.
Color Palette
The palette is soft, warm, and translucent. Gentle pastel tones — peach, blush pink, muted greens, warm ochre, soft grey, and touches of deep teal — create a light, airy atmosphere. Colors are layered transparently, almost like memories of watercolor washes, allowing the black expressive lines to breathe and move freely across the surface.
Style
The collection combines expressive abstraction with elements of expressionism. Energetic, spontaneous lines resemble botanical sketches or quick field studies, while soft abstract color fields create emotional landscapes rather than literal depictions.
