Zakhar Shevchuk’s Four Generations (2020) is a 60×99 cm oil that turns the “flaws” of old snapshots – blur, scratches, light leaks – into poetic tools. The wide format reads like a remembered film frame: movement, hush, and bond more than descriptive detail.
Around a rounded table, two elders occupy the left half, while a mother and toddler glow at the right. Edges are proposed and softened, glasses and plates flicker as sgraffito lines. Slate-blue and teal tones hold an evening stillness that invites the viewer to complete the image – recognizing lineage even when features recede.
Balancing narrative hint and painterly abstraction, Four Generations offers a contemplative, psychologically resonant family scene. Private collection, commissions welcome.
