Dear Customer,
The creation of the painting you have chosen to view is based on methods and workshop techniques dating back to the Renaissance. A chalk-oil primer is applied to the linen canvas, followed by multiple layers of oil paint—some more transparent than others. This is the glazing technique; although it significantly extends the creation process, often to many weeks, it ensures durability and, above all, allows light to penetrate successive layers, creating an impression of profound depth. Finally, the painting is sealed with a protective varnish that shields it from ultraviolet light, dust, and unforeseen changes in air humidity.
Paintings created this way in the past have survived half a millennium to this day. It is my hope that mine will also endure for at least several centuries.
The motif is drawn from a close observation of nature and its often temperamental atmosphere. Inspired by such scenery and mood, the image first forms in my imagination, only to gain its final, expressive character before the easel…

Materials used:

Linen canvas, original oil gesso, high quality oil paints, varnish, floating frame
