Flower Kiosk by the Metro (2022) Original Oil Painting by Natalia Matveeva

80 x 80 x 1.7cm (unframed) / 80 x 80cm (actual image size)

£1,241.77

The subject of this work is a bright flower kiosk by the metro in Munich. In the background of the painting, I have captured the figure of the flower seller with just a few brushstrokes. She is barely visible, remaining in the shadow and becoming part of the overall rhythm and atmosphere of the scene.

It is a sunny urban day, and the colour palette of the painting reflects this mood — vivid, saturated, almost poster-like. The work was painted on a bright pink imprimatura, which shines through the layers of paint and gives the piece a special warmth and liveliness.

The image creates a feeling of lightness, joy, and a positive atmosphere.

The work is painted in oil on canvas with a crossbar stretcher. The edges of the canvas are painted in the colour of the imprimatura — a bright pink colour — allowing the painting to maintain its unity and to be displayed without a frame.

The painting pairs beautifully with my other work, the landscape “Pink and Blue”; together they create a harmonious colour combination.
