Original artwork description:

This monoprint is part of a small series on the theme of flora and fauna. This sub series is printed onto gold paper. The gold is hard to show accurately in photographs as it changes with the light. So I shall try and describe it too. The golden paper gives a lovely warm glow, like the inside of lampshades, or chocolate boxes. It changes through the day, strong light making it gleam, more subtle light making it soften into a warm and almost feminine palette of autumnal colours. It's frosted surface shows the lino prints well. It makes me think of old hand-painted or hand-printed luxury wallpapers, like some Chinoiserie or a more disordered form of Art Nouveau a unapologetic delight in a beautiful tangle of nature.

I have created 30 linocut printing blocks of individual plants and animals and used them to try and replicate the layered nature of the hedgerow.

The images are each made from a unique combination of these linocut blocks inked up and printed.

Each is quite different from the others, the choice of blocks used, the positioning and the colours of the ink make each monoprint a unique creation.

I hope that each conveys my love for nature.

Printed onto Canford paper - frosted gold and Caligo safe ink (oil based)

Paper sized : 59.4 cm x 84.1 cm (23.4 inches x 33.1 inches)

My linocuts are handmade from start to finish, hand carved, rolled and handprinted, as in the nature of linoprints and the handmade process they may have small variations. This I feel is part of the charm of printmaking and makes each print into both a unique artwork.
