- Flocker Liz
Original artwork description
This is a painting of a famous local character. Flocker Liz was the madam of the bordello in Echuca in the 1800’s. Her house of ill repute is the only one of its kind that is preserved and protected in Victoria Australia. In 1897 she lost her licence for ‘immorality’ yet must have made enough of an impact on the local community to be commemorated in plaques in town to this day.
Although there are no photos of her, I imagine her in my mind to be a tough, hands on hips, no nonsense, fierce woman. I tried to encapsulate that in this painting of her.
