Original artwork description:

This is the fourteenth of my "Find your wings and fly away" pictures and once again I've printed three sizes of one of my butterfly drawings onto card and then painted them all a pale peachy pink watercolour.

All of the right hand wings have been painted in metalic watercolour - pink at the top, beige in the middle and silver at the base.

I've darkend the left hand wings of the top third of the butterflies by adding dark red/maroon watercolour dots and edging with an even darker maroon. For the middle section the butterflies have red dots and pink edges, and for the lower third I've dotted white acrylic and they have white edges.

I cut the three sizes/colours of butterfly, folded their wings, and decoratively arranged them in a graduating square, in the centre of a heavy watercolour paper sheet. The darker butterflies at the top, lighter in the centre, and with the white dots at the base.

The painting is framed in a white glazed (Perspex) deep box frame.

The result is a vibrant pink modern relief design revealing individual butterflies on closer inspection. Different shadows are cast, and light reflected from the metalic paint on the up-turned wings depending on the direction of the light.
