Exmoor sunset , North Devon
       Banana yellow sun,
        Oatmeal and peach hues,
        Smokey grey clouds,
Dried foxgloves, grasses, gorse and heather,
Taking it in for as long as I can.
Words and expression of my recent Summer holiday.
I created this original sunset watercolour over the moorland at where I was staying on holiday in North Devon. It was peaceful, wild and beautiful. I want to go back again next year as the landscape was so inspirational.
I used a wet on wet technique for the background and then a dropping technique for the sunset. I had to control colour washes by moving the paper across and down.
As the watercolour paper starts to dry I create the markings and detail of the foreground using a pressing technique to apply the paint. A dragging technique with my Chinese brushes to get the movement of the grasses, I also used my filbert brush for the textured effect with the paint.
It was a special time as I painted the scene with my 12 yr old grandson and he had a go to at painting the sunset which was amazing.
Extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 425 gsm 200lb, peobeo watercolours, sable hair brush, Chinese brush, filbert,
