Evening near Malia. Crete (2012)Oil painting
by Simon Kozhin
£1,482.74
Original artwork description
From noon to four in the evening it gets very hot in Crete. Even the wind from the sea is hot and sometimes scalding. Climbing the volcanic soil with rather sharp edges, I carefully mastered new places. Not far from my location are the localities of Ayia Varvara with a small bay that the Minoans used as a port, Minoan ostraca and burials were found. According to legend, Sarpedon, the son of Zeus and Europa, the younger brother of Minos, reigned in Malia. In the distance, mountains and the sea surface are visible, everything is immersed in a soft blue haze.
