This is a plein air painting created in the hamlet of Tote on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
I have had many painting trips to the Isle of Skye and this is one of that series of Skye paintings. The Cuillin ridge on the island is a popular motif for artists and photographers alike. It is often shrouded in cloud and the dark coloured rock gives the mountains a formidable appearance which makes climbers want to take on the challenge.

I have often observed that, when the sun is shining, the evening light makes the hills appear rosier, softer and less formidable and I decided to paint the ridge one summer evening when there was no cloud cover to hide the peaks. The little hamlet of Tote offered a peaceful location to set up my easel with this lovely view.
