In this small still life I wanted to focus on luminous power of color. The flowers themselves become almost abstract, they're not static objects to be observed but phenomena to be experienced. What interests me the most is how they feel when light moves through them. The combination of impasto strokes and scratching gives them a flickering, ephemeral quality. The light seems to glow from within where the surface has been opened up by scraping through wet paint.
