Esplanade Cafe is an acrylic painting on gesso panel inspired by a day trip to Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast last summer. It was early morning, the night time rain had cleared and the sky was brightening over the sea. The place was deserted and this beach-side Cafe was just opening up for the day.
Christopher Witchall’s unsentimental approach to his subjects combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
