Emergence - original watercolour portrait of woman with flowers

This tender and etheral study features a woman's profile as she emerges from a gathering of wildflowers in the morning mist.

I enjoyed layering very fine washes of pure colour to amplify areas of her face and rendering sketchy florest and stalks with lost and found edges.

I wanted to create a wistful and timeless image that would evoke days spent wandering through wildflower meadows in high summer.

The paper used is individually handmade Two Rivers paper. Ecah sheet is created from 100% cotton and linen fibers in a traditional hand held mould. The process results in unique and beautiful paper that is acid free and is in itself a thing of beauty with its slightly irregular toothy surface.
