Flamingos are among the most mesmerizing birds to paint. Their graceful neck, calm gaze, and bright beak accents make them instantly recognizable. In this piece, I focused on the subtle interplay of soft pink washes, delicate lavender shadows, and the deep violet tones on the beak.
There is no “simple pink” in a flamingo. It’s always a mix of coral, rose, peach, cool lilac, and warm highlights. Watercolor allows those transitions to stay alive and transparent — that’s exactly what I wanted to preserve here.
A little fact I love: flamingos often stand on one leg not for beauty, but to conserve body heat. And their iconic color is entirely dependent on their diet — algae and small crustaceans rich in carotenoids.
