There is a deep relief in letting go of the struggle and simply floating. You are allowed to stop swimming for a while and let the water hold you.
Drifting is an original acrylic painting on board, 30 x 20cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a great swell of green and turquoise, a figure floating through it with arms open, birds moving easily on the same current, and cockatoos resting in the trees on the far bank.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about the relief of surrender, the moment you stop fighting the water and discover it was holding you up all along.
Painted with artist quality acrylics on MDF board. Ready to hang. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide direct from my studio in Brisbane, Australia.
