Artwork inspired by November 28, 1378, the date when St. Catherine of Siena went to Rome to spiritually support the Curia and help catalyze around Pope Urban VI the consensus of European states. Through prayer and intense diplomatic activity, urging even by letter the commitment of rulers and the prayers of contemplatives, the great Saint spent herself totally for the unity and reform of the Church. In this oil painting I wanted to capture the intensity and subtle tensions of religious diplomacy. Through expressive faces and meaningful gestures, I conveyed the inner conflict and search for balance between faith and power through a vibrant atmosphere and warm colors, whose engaging energy will enliven the space in which it will be displayed, inviting intense reflection.
