Diamant Rose (2026) Original Oil Painting by Mieke van Os

81 x 90 x 6cm (framed) / 68 x 77cm (actual image size)

£1,551.6

The piece of jewellery is inspired by the so-called rose-cut Diamond, which dates back to the Renaissance. Jewellery in Old Dutch settings within compact silver mounts; flat at the base and tapering to a point at the top. A cut that was long a speciality of Dutch Diamond Cutters and may have been a further development of the Indian Cutting Method. A Rose-Cut Diamond is not flawless; each shape is different and has its own unique character.

The Diamond is seen as a symbol of love, devotion and durability; hardly surprising when you consider that the name is derived from the Ancient Greek ‘Adamas’, which roughly means ‘Invincible’. On a spiritual level, a Diamond represents a long life, inner beauty and achievement; peace and clarity. It is the Birthstone for the month of April and is associated with the zodiac sign of Aries. My zodiac sign! The Colour depends partly on the concentration of nitrogen in the diamond and varies from sparkling white to sparkling yellow, orange, brown, yellow-green, blue and purple. The red ones are the rarest. Did you know that Diamonds are formed some 160 km below the Earth’s Surface at temperatures of up to 850 degrees Celsius? Volcanic activity propels them upwards, after which they are carried away by water currents. Ready to sparkle. The same goes for this piece of jewellery: a touch of times gone by in a contemporary setting. Simply stunning, because ‘Diamonds are forever’.

Materials used:

Oil, wax crayons, marker, spray paint on linen, handmade paper, wooden slightly multicoloured vintage frame.
