This lithograph was inspired by a dew pond near where I live. I often past this spot on my walks along the hills above Brighton, UK.
Depending on the weather and season the pond looks different each time.
I find its shape and the landscape it sits in very calming. The image has very clear lines and forms, like the pond on a clear winter’s day.
Lithographic printmaking techniques allow for hand drawn marks to keep their painterly appearance when printed. In this print the marks are soft and light and almost seem to float on the paper. There is a certain vulnerability to this lithographic printmaking process because of it's directness in translating every mark drawn to the paper.
“Dew Pond” is printed by me on my direct litho press on acid free fine art printmaking paper in my studio in Brighton, UK.
The image measures about 20.5cm x 26cm with a paper margin of 5-6cm all around (30.5cm x 38cm)
