This ceramic female figurine has been named after the Greek Goddess Demeter, the sustainer of mankind and goddess of the Harvest and Seasons. Demeter was mother of Persephone who was abducted by Hades and whose cycle of joy and grief resulted in the changing of the seasons. She is depicted seated in a reflective, highly feminine pose with a facial expression that can be decoded as both peaceful and distraught. She is finished in a black-grey glaze, reminiscent of molten metal, and mounted on a lacquered wood base.

Materials used:

clay, glaze, wood
