Original artwork description:

December Morning
My polder in Zeeland at the very early start of the day. The sky is firing and the colours are glowing. A polder is a low-lying tract of land that forms an artificial hydrological entity, enclosed by embankments known as dikes. Every moment is different, every moment is new. The famous Zeelandic light is always playing a great role, the sea is reflecting it. " The colour of the morning sky, reflected in the traces on the land and the red roofs, is intense, almost overwhelming. It looks like an abstraction before we get this hint of humanity. There is sense of solitude, almost loneliness."D. H. "Your low horizon lines are so dramatic and so very Dutch" (D.H.)
"The landscapes of Van Nieuwenhuijzen are extensive, born from an intense experience of the openness of the Zeeland area. An undertone of mysticism is unmistakable. As if caught in line and color movement continues in the invisible behind the horizon. The accentuated line is both the boundary and the window. The subtle differences in rhythm and nuances reflect a range of emotions.” (K.B)
