Original artwork description
The painting Dancing Barefoot shows a lot of limbs and body parts, becoming one layered, indistinguishable mass. I removed any faces that might serve as “an anchor point,” which would be an easy distraction from the rhythm and movement of the composition, its intended chaos.
As mostly the work started relatively simple and restrained with one central figure, but figures were added, then changed or removed, wanting it to feel multi-layered, but always working towards harmony. Through this process the work gains character and complexity as the layers of paint build up over time and also the central idea gets more layered, moving away from the pure physicality of living in our bodies. The painting is (as my work mostly is) less about a narrative than about emotion. (And yes the title is borrowed from Patti Smith, as most titles reflect song lyrics I am listening to while painting).

This piece is sold unframed. It will be carefully packaged in mostly repurposed shipping materials. Customs fees and duties are the responsibility of the recipient.
