Original artwork description
The Great Plains were built on the rail. The small communities that dot the massive prairie depended on the rail. It connected them to the world. It was their life blood. As time moved on, the rail stopped less and less at so many of these small communities. Slowly they have died off. Little remains. The rail still stretches across the prairie though. Although its foot print is felt less. You see long convoys of container cars. Hauling junk made cheaply by robots. Without the human element. A little more of the dream dies. But one thing that remains. Those long trains made up of grain cars. Grain grown here. Grain headed out to feed the world. The prairie still has this magical gift. The rural farmers working through the night at times. Bringing in the harvest. The rail will always be the life blood of the Prairie. This is the first of a study of the Dakota Rail. The iron house takes place of the bison herds on the Great Plains.
