Curtis Island Light, Camden Harbor
Francois de Melogue
2023 | Archival pigment print on metallic lustre fine art paper | 25x17

Curtis Island sits at the mouth of Camden Harbor like a stone held in an open palm, small and self-contained, ringed by dark ledge rock the color of charcoal and rust. From above, the island reads as a single dense knot of spruce and fir, green so deep it is nearly black at the center, broken only by the white keeper's house with its red roof and the stubby lighthouse tower standing at the southern edge. The water around it is flat and pewter-blue, holding the reflections of the sky in long, trembling streaks. Sailboats ride at their moorings in the harbor behind, their hulls tiny and bright against the dark water.

The sky above Camden that morning was doing more than one thing at once. A bank of storm cloud pressed in from the north, dragging mist across the Camden Hills, while a break of pale light opened above the harbor and fell directly onto the island. The village of Camden is visible along the far shore, its white church spire rising above the treeline, the whole thing reduced by altitude to something quiet and orderly. From this height the island is not a landmark so much as a fact, a piece of coast that has been doing its job for nearly two centuries with no particular interest in being noticed.

Quality is about longevity. I use a high-resolution Canon R5 Mark II to capture every detail of the Camden, Maine landscape. Each piece is printed in-studio using professional-grade Canon Pro-1100 and Epson P9000 systems with archival pigment inks on natural cotton paper to create a print that will last for generations.
Print only, with a 1/4 inch wide white bordering for convenient matting and (or) framing

Unmatted (unmounted) / unframed.

Materials used:

Shot on a Canon EOS R5 Mark II. Printed on a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 using museum-grade archival pigment inks on metallic lustre fine art paper.
