'Cup of tea, my love is dead'  invokes a delicate melancholy. We join an older woman for tea: her appearance weathered by life and her youthful enthusiasm pillaged by time itself.  Many moments of joy and despair are now rooted in the past and she ponders these memories as the day comes to an end.
The piece, however, also reveals a strength and grounds for optimism. Her choice of attire and her posture, as well as the formality of the table setting, describe a courage and a stubborn persistence. A stoicism and determination to engage with life and to decorate every last moment with small fine personal details.
