This is one of the full-scale costumed sketches of a girl sitting in a sleigh for my painting Maslenitsa. Seeing off the winter. I painted in a few hours in a workshop.
The girl is dressed in authentic street clothing of the 19th century, in which married women dressed in Russia. In this piece, I embraced the warmth and solitude of tradition, using oil to capture the soft, impressionistic glow around the figure. The rich reds speak of heritage and quiet strength, while the diffused light and textured brushstrokes invite you to feel a moment suspended in time. This painting brings a gentle, contemplative energy that will evoke nostalgia and calm in any space.
