Painted en plein air on the last day of August, 'Corner Oak' draws you into the captivating presence of a mature oak tree perched gracefully across a quiet track called Intake Lane, just off the road to Pockley near the North Yorkshire market town of Helmsley. The painting depicts the late summer hues of North Yorkshire with bold and impasto brushwork and the interplay between warm and cool hues in the ivy clad tree, the distant ochre of the harvested wheat fields and the faded summer hedgerows.
