Artwork description:

Originally a watercolour painting, reproduced as a beautifully detailed giclee print.

There's something very gentle and thoughtful and a little aloof that I like about this Clown.

The story behind this painting is of a friendship with someone who moved home to Vietnam after our Fine Art Degree. He asked if I'd paint him a 'Clown walking away' and what you see here was intended to be my initial sketch. Only it felt perfect. It wasn't consciously a self-portrait, but I did a lot of clowning at the time, and I feel as though it is one.
