ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
Chrysopoeia means transmutation into gold, it is alchemy. Turning base materials into gold, the impure into the pure.
I found this bringing together of the impure graffiti aesthetic and making it appear as gold, something we hold to be so pure and prestigious, quite delicious. The profane into the sacred, almost. To take a material which is so associated with high status and use it to gild graffiti could be seen as a very apposite comment on today's culture.
It is also quite beautiful in itself, catching the light and reflecting the warm golden glow into the room. The texture of the graffiti shows up well, catching the light and changing as you or the light moves around it.
MEDIUM:
Dutch gold leaf (golden metal) on stretched canvas. Gold size and shellac to seal and protect the surface. Acrylic paint under the gilding and modelling paste to create the heavy relief graffiti texture. Gesso.
DIMENSIONS:
• Height : 30 inches (76 cm)
• Width : 30 inches (76 cm)
• Depth : .5 inches (2 cm)
The sides of the painting are gilded to match the painting so no frame is needed.
READY TO HANG:
All canvases are fitted with saw-tooth hangers to enable easy hanging. My paintings on canvas do not need framing as the sides will be painted and every canvas is shipped ready to hang.
SHIPPING:
All paintings are packed very carefully in cardboard boxes (recycled where possible) with generous layers of bubble wrap to protect them.
All orders will be processed and shipped within 3 business days.
Once shipped, you will receive an email with your tracking details and expected delivery date. If you require a specific date for delivery just let me know.
All deliveries will require a signature on delivery.
