Cat and Rainbow Fairy (2023) Original Mixed-media Painting by Phyllis Mahon

A golden fairy, showering rainbow blessings on a cat ... a hopeful image for Spring and a new year.
What might have been snow from her white wings has taken on the colours from her radiant, swirling hair. The grasses of Spring are pushing through the snowy ground and the cat raises its face to those colours.

It was inspired by my elderly cat and by the sunlight ... in my little painting room the low sun covered the walls and paper with spectrum colours from the baubles hanging in the window (visible in the photographs).

I've painted her body in gold gouache and used Derwent Intense watercolours for the rest of the painting except for the white snow area which is gouache too.

Painted on my favourite Indian handmade medium weight, 210gsm grey paper.
It is 11.5 x 15.5 inches and has an uneven deckled edge.
Sometimes buyers of my paintings on this paper ask their framer to "float" the paper so that the pretty edge can be retained.

Available unframed.

Painting will be packed carefully and sent by Courier.
I always include a Certificate of Authenticity.
