August 1st in Paraguay is a day when a superstitious traditional drink called Carrulim is consumed. August is the year of least productivity and harvest so taking a sip of this drink at the beginning of the month is said to ward off bad luck and give you a successful month against the odds. It's a mixture of Caña - an alcoholic beverage made from fermented cane sugar, Ruda - a plant of which you mix a few leaves into the drink, and Lemon, hence the name - Ca-Rru-Lim. I was asked to produce a couple of paintings for an exhibition to showcase this Paraguayan tradition for the World Rally Championship which came to Paraguay for the first time. Here is one of the pieces.
Professional quality acrylics on stretched canvas, the sides are painted black ready to frame.
