This work portrays a slender young woman whose fragility appears tense and quietly vulnerable. Her body seems shaped by the desire to meet strict, imposed standards — a pursuit that often creates inner discomfort and a lingering sense of insufficiency. This is not an ideal, but a state: a moment when striving for “perfection” becomes excessive and begins to influence one’s sense of self.

The thin, almost trembling lines emphasize delicacy, restraint, and the subtle pressure that accompanies constant self-monitoring. On torchon paper, with its skin-like texture, the image becomes especially sensitive — a body that seems to waver between wanting to disappear and wanting to be seen.

This work is part of the diptych “Canons of Beauty”, where it forms a dialogue with the second piece — the image of a soft, full-figured woman.
