Brief Encounter (2025)Linocut by Amanda Ribbans

22 x 22cm

£100

When I was in the beautiful Scilly Isles I came across an extremely tame Song Thrush. It stood and sung, completely unperturbed by my presence - it was a brief, but memorable encounter. The islands were full of lush vegetation and beautiful hues. The bird's background refers to the sage-green succulent plants and the salmon-pink granite which were everywhere.

It is a very small edition because it's a reduction linocut; meaning that a a single block is progressively carved and printed in multiple colours, usually from light to dark. Because more of the same block is cut away between each colour layer, the process is destructive, meaning the entire edition must be printed at once.

Materials used:

Oil based ink on archival paper
