“Past and Present” is an Impressionistic painting with a foreground of strong and prominent irises intermingling with others that fade into the background, signifying the way that seeing seasonal blooms conjures up feelings and memories of gardens, events and people from our past. Perhaps the connection we feel is to a beloved matriarch, a wedding day or magical springtime gardens of our childhood.
Unlike the other paintings in this series, pale pink plays a stronger role in this painting, loosely woven throughout the background. Paired with cool greens and Sienna colored crayon, the color palette evokes feeling of nostalgia.
