This painting began with a contrast between weight and openness—a dense, dark upper form dissolving into a lighter, expansive field of color.
I worked intuitively, layering acrylic with both brush and palette knife to build depth and texture. The composition brings together cool blue and grey tones with soft blush pink, warm beige, and earthy ochre. These colors merge and shift across the surface, creating a sense of space that feels both grounded and open.
As I developed the painting, I was drawn to the idea of terrain—not as a literal place, but as a memory of color and movement. The lower area unfolds in layered pinks and neutrals, while the upper section holds a stronger, darker presence that gradually breaks apart into light.
The surface is rich in texture, with areas of thick paint and scraped layers that reveal what lies beneath. This interplay gives the work a tactile quality and allows it to change depending on the light and the viewer’s perspective.
