Blue (2018) Original Oil Painting by Ryan Louder

Blue is an original oil painting on canvas, 100 x 76 cm, by London artist Ryan Louder — a whole canvas of blues laid down block by block.

Deep navy, cobalt, cerulean and cold white, each square applied with a loaded brush so the impasto ridges catch the light. The whites are not spread evenly. They cluster a little above the centre, so the canvas has a faint glow rising out of it, like looking down into deep water at the pattern light makes on its own surface. There are no figures and no landscape here. The story lives entirely in the temperature of the blue and the rhythm of the blocks.

This is the colour field the way it actually arrives in half-sleep: not as emotion but as structure, tile by tile, organising itself. Painted in my London studio. Carefully packaged and dispatched with a tracked courier. Any questions, just ask.
