Original artwork description
Blackout is a semi-abstract oil painting that explores contrast, energy, and quiet endurance. Inspired by real blackouts in Kyiv, the work transforms lived experience into a symbolic visual space rather than a literal depiction.
On the left side, subtle figurative elements – a chair and a seated figure – emerge from a brighter field. The right side remains almost entirely dark. Connecting these two zones is a glowing, ambiguous form that may be read as flowers or as sparks of blue-green energy, leaving traces even in the darkness.
Although this artwork is sold, it exemplifies Zakhar Shevchuk’s ability to balance abstraction with narrative suggestion. The artist is open to commissions in a similar mood and visual language.
