Bibliomania (2026)Mixed-media painting by Tetiana Cherevan
120 x 90 x 3cm (unframed) / 120 x 90cm (actual image size)
£7,434.5
Original artwork description
Detached from reality
“Bibliomania is not a love of reading, nor is it romantic.
It is an obsessive attraction to the book as an object, and to knowledge as a form of escape.”
— It is a state in which a book holds you more firmly than the ground beneath your feet.
It is a mechanism of survival.
No one has ever loved like this. Across thousands of years
such love comes only rarely.
On such a day, spring blossoms on the earth,
and the earth adorns itself from the morning.
— Volodymyr Sosiura(ukrainian poet- words on the body)
Technique of creation
The letters are created from a strong material.
The sand that I collected by the sea became the basis for them — like a strong foundation that holds the words.
Around the figure of the girl, the background is laid out with copper sheets.
Behind her, there is a graphic landscape drawn in black lines, reminiscent of an engraving. The mountains combine the silhouettes of Montserrat and the Carpathians — two geographies, two roots. The line is strict, inspired by the works of Dürer, like history carved into time. The landscape extends beyond the oval frame, like memory that cannot be contained within a single form.
Materials used:
oil, acrylic, modeling paste, bronze leaf, linen
