Between Them (2026) is a figurative painting by Zakhar Shevchuk that focuses on the space of interaction between two figures. Positioned opposite one another, they are connected by a central structure that also separates them. The composition remains open, allowing the viewer to interpret the nature of this relationship without a fixed narrative.

Each figure holds a palm-like branch, introducing a subtle gesture that suggests offering or communication. At the same time, the figures do not fully connect, remaining in a state of proximity rather than resolution. This tension between presence and distance becomes central to the work.

The surface is built through layered acrylic, combining gestural brushwork with vertical drips that extend and partially dissolve the forms. These material elements contribute to a sense of instability while maintaining an overall compositional balance.
