Water was a big part of my upbringing, swimming, sailing, fishing, living beside it, watching the difference each season brings. There is something wonderful about summer swimming in sheltered bay, the feeling of being encased in soft buoyant water, and warm sun that shines through to catch the tops of the rocks and sand.
My paintings are all about layers, I start with often surprising colours underneath so I can build up depth and variety of colour.
I love the way the motion of the water on top contrasts with the stillness of the light shafts hitting the darker, quieter rocks.
