The village is situated on a mountain ridge in the Quba District, nearly 2,300 meters (7,545 feet) above sea level. Its high altitude and rugged landscape kept it isolated for centuries.
Khinalug is an ancient, remote mountain village in the Greater Caucasus of Azerbaijan, known for its unique language, culture, and architecture. As one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world, with a history dating back over 5,000 years, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023.
