The ground is still cold,
holding the weight of winter.
Bare branches rise against a clear sky,
their lines sharp, almost fragile.
Shadows stretch across the pale surface of the frozen water.
And yet — something is shifting.
The earth begins to warm.
Dry grasses catch the light.
The air changes, becoming deeper, fuller.
This is not yet spring in bloom,
but the moment just before it —
when everything gathers strength to begin again.
