Original artwork description
This striking mixed-media canvas exemplifies Jerome Cholet’s distinctive visual language, where the human face becomes both subject and structure. Featuring his classic male model, Augusta Alexander, the work oscillates between intimacy and fragmentation, inviting the viewer into a psychological as much as a visual encounter.
Drawing clear lineage from Cubism—particularly Picasso and Braque—Cholet fractures the portrait plane into layered zones of perception. These geometric interruptions are counterbalanced by a Pop Art sensibility reminiscent of Andy Warhol: bold chromatic accents, graphic contrasts, and a contemporary, almost screen-printed immediacy. The cool blues and vivid reds punctuate the grayscale visage, acting like emotional coordinates across the face—at once analytical and expressive.
Executed on canvas (50 × 50 cm), the work combines acrylic, paper, and resin, with the final resin layer sealing the composition in a glossy, almost vitrified skin. This finish enhances depth and luminosity while reinforcing the tension between the raw and the refined, the constructed and the human.
This artwork is a confident, collectible example of Cholet’s mature practice—ideal for discerning collectors seeking a contemporary portrait that bridges modernist heritage and present-day visual culture.
IMPORTANT: None of my artwork is perfect, they are organic, there are drops of paint, tears in the paper, waves, glue residues. They are original!
