I stayed for 3 weeks in August at an artist residency in France. It was in the country and they had several animals. Among them, two hens. Something about the entrance to their pen and the way they moved captured my attention. However, they moved so fast that I was not able to figure out their heads or go into detail in the rest of their bodies. At some point I was mostly waiting for them and once they showed up I could only advance the painting very slowly. I felt I could not keep up with this rhythm; and with this painting a limit became clear.
