Don’t we all long for a place bathed in light, sunshine, and blossoms—a place where we feel safe, held, and loved? ARMADA TO THE LAND OF FLOWERS is a visual journey to that very place. Guided by a fleet of Twomblyesque boats and surrounded by blooming forms, this work invites you discover your own Land Of Flowers!
The piece emerged from a personal challenge. In recent smaller works, I had been using colored pencils, pastels, and wax crayons—though always in combination with acrylic paint. These materials served more as complementary elements within a painterly context. At one point, I decided to push beyond that familiar approach and set myself a new task: to create a large-scale work using only these drawing media, without any paint, and to approach the process purely as a drawing, not a painting.
The last stretched canvas became the stage for this experiment. I quickly realized how difficult it was to stay abstract with these materials. Unlike painting, where abstraction flows more freely, I found myself instinctively drawing flowers and boats. They surfaced naturally, almost unconsciously, as if they were waiting to be revealed.
After days of reflection, I knew how to complete the composition: by adding white—not as a color, but as a gesture. It helped define form, emphasize movement, and create contrast with the creamy canvas and green lines. The result was exactly what I envisioned.
What was intended to be an experiment became a Armada - sailing toward a land of flowers. A place of light. A place of peace. A place to dream.
